Concordia University of Edmonton has joined with our Italian partners at the Istituto Lorenzo De' Medici to bring you an Opera Appreciation Tour in Summer 2017. Join us and visit
This 12-day Music Appreciation program will offer you a unique introduction to Italian Opera to music lovers in general. You'll have the opportunity to experience the genre in loco through live performances and museum visitations, combined with five tutorial sessions and sightseeing. Topics will range from the early beginnings of the genre in Florence to insights into selected works of Italy's foremost opera composers: Verdi and Puccini. The program culminates with live performances at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Lucca and Baths of Caracalla in Rome.
No music background required.
Day 1: Travel to Italy.
Day 2: Start the day in Venice, with a walking tour of the city.
Day 3: Tutorial #1 followed by a guided tour at Teatro La Fenice, ending the day with a live performance at Musica A Palazzo.
Day 4: Tutorial #2 following by sightseeing of The Ghetto, From Rialto to Cannaregio. The rest of the day is at your disposal.
Day 5: Tour the Islands of the Lagoon (Murano, Burano, Torcello) with the group, and then the rest of the day is at your disposal.
Day 6: Take the train to Verona for the day and visit the Arena Museum Opera (AMO), ending the evening with a live performance at the Arena Opera Festival (Arena di Verona Festival).
Day 7: Travel from Venice to Florence by train, for Tutorial #3 at the Istituto Lorenzo De' Medici.
Day 8: Day trip to Lucca, visit the Museum Vila Puccini, take a guided tour of the city and end the day with a live performance of the Festival Pucciniano.
Day 9: Take Tutorial #4 in Florence, and then have a guided tour of the historical centre of the city. Visit Accademia, Farmacia Santa Maria Novella, Florence Dome and the Pitti Palace (the museums + Boboli garden).
Day 10: Travel from Florence to Rome, for Tutorial #5, and then explore the city at your leisure.
Day 11: Guided tour of Rome. Visit the historical centre of the city, the Vatican Museums and end the day with a live performance at Baths of Caracalla.
Day 12: Return home to Edmonton from Italy.
